Casapueblo
This house is universally considered as an habitable sculpture. It is a work of art and architecture created by the physical artist, Carlos Páez Vilaró; which took him 36 years to reach completion. It is also famous for its incredible sunsets, which can be seen from all of its rooms. It also functions as permanent art fixture.
Avenida Gorlero:
It is the main avenue of the town. The focal point of the avenue is the Plaza Artigas where you will find the Artisan Market. You will also find different shopping destinations such as designer label stores, restaurants, movies, nightclubs, and casinos.
Gorriti Island:
This small isle of barely 20 hectares is almost completely covered with pine trees and possesses two beaches as well as a natural port, which is sure to please nautical lovers
Island of the Seal Lions:
Differing from Gorriti Island, the Island of the Sea Lions is double in size, has a rocky surface, and is inhabited by the most important colony of sea lions in South America. The island’s history lies with the story of Juan Diaz de Solís and his men. The explorer sent his men to hunt these sea lions which served as their only source of food for their voyage back to Spain. .
The Lighthouse:
It is 40 meters high and completely constructed out of materials imported from Europe, this lighthouse has oriented mariners for almost 150 years.
Lapataia Dairy Farm:
Lapataia was founded November 14, 1986 and is located fifteen minutes from Punta del Este. The valley of Lapataia is 45 hectares big and has a strong Alsatian air to it. The Lapataia Dairy Farm operates as an absolutely all-natural agricultural system and holds a strong artisanal tradition.
Artisanal Fair:
Located on the Plaza Artigas and in the center of the peninsula, this fair has about 200 stands where you can buy simple souvenirs, wool clothing, leather craft-work; and you can even find gold, silver, and semi precious stone jewelry.
La Barra de Maldonado:
Until the 1940s, it was only populated by fishermen; since then summer residences began being constructed. As time went on this area became the exclusive summer hub that it is today with its exclusive beaches such as Bikini beach, Manantiales, Montoya, and the beach town of Tesoro. You will also find the Museo del Mar (Sea Museum), which holds an extensive collection of native marine fauna exhibits as well as exhibits displaying specimens from every ocean of the world such as different species of marine conches, sea urchins, turtle caparazones, whale skeletons, etc.
